About An Aussie in Britain

This is An Aussie in Britain, a brand new site by Micky Bragg that's just getting started. There will be more posts coming, but you can subscribe in the meantime if you'd like to stay up to date and receive emails when new content is published!

I am an Australian who has moved to the UK and is looking to get going in the heritage and museum industry. I studied Classics and Heritage/Museum Studies at university and am keen to apply these skills to real life heritage places.

Personally, I am interested in the idea of collective memory, particularly that of the Scottish nationalistic collective memory amongst the context of the changing geographic and political landscapes in Britain over the centuries. Collective memory when applied to heritage is something I came across in my postgraduate studies and I am fascinated to keep looking into it further and finding examples of it within the UK landscape rather than from far away.

My aim through my posts is to record the places I've been and share the experiences I've had, but also to apply to knowledge I've gained over the years in assessing the sites I go to. For instance, how do sites address issues of physical accessibility, changing ideologies, upgrades to information, and many more. Whilst I'm not working in the industry yet, I want to keep working on my skills and maybe even offer a guide to someone in the future to museums and sites.
